Youth Corps

We have recently started Friends of CCDO Youth Corps. This was borne out of several initiatives that we have done in the past six month. We feel that by embracing the Youth we can empower their future.

Jenni was approached by a Kirk Bauer, a teacher from a Riverside High School in Yonkers NY, to lecture to his classes on her experience in Cambodia. Kirk and his wife Kara had seen our water wells on a visit to Cambodia and had donated their own Water Well. Lecturing to the students was inspirational and one student, Kadijah Spence, picked up the ball and ran with it. She used Friends of CCDO as her community service and sold our Skin Cut-Outs to raise awareness and funds. Riverside High School has one water well and more to come.

It was amazing to see Kadijah blossom with the project. I was honored to be invited to take part in their Earth Day event in April.

Since then, we have been approached by other schools to start clubs that will feature awareness for Cambodia and its culture as well as raise funds.

We have Tarush Sinha, a 10th grader from Monta Vista High in Cupertino, California, who lived in Singapore and has seen first hand the devastation of Cambodia and what needs to be done to help them recover. He has started a school club to bring awareness and raise funds.

We have a small group from St Mary's College in Moraga, California, who will be going to Cambodia in January to give hands on help to two schools in Siem Reap.

They will see first hand, the devastation of a country and the painful rebuilding.

Since the 1940's, each decade, there has been a major Genocide somewhere in the world. It is my hope that the lessons learned from Cambodia and Genocide can help foster a tolerance among our youth. We are all the same on the inside and should help one another.
